Health & Wellness

For both minor illnesses/concerns and emergency care, nurses and licensed counselors are on duty Monday through Friday in the Health and Wellness Center, our modern, 14-bed infirmary. 

The Health and Wellness Center

Four dedicated nurses staff the health and wellness center. Collectively, the nursing staff has many years of experience in all areas of pediatrics, including ambulatory care, hospital care of the pediatric inpatient, pediatric intensive care, and pediatric emergency triage. Other areas of experience include intensive care nursing, emergency room nursing, and women’s reproductive health.

The Health and Wellness Center is located to the north of New Dorm on the east end of campus. Hours are as follows:

Monday–Friday 7:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

A nurse is always on call. When the Health and Wellness Center is closed, the student is able to access health care by contacting dorm faculty who can reach the on-call nurse 24/7.

Parents can contact health services during regular hours at 703-556-8243 or by email at healthcenter@qdit.com.cn. For questions outside regular hours contact the Adult on Duty at 703-556-8211 who will connect you with the on-call nurse.

The Counseling Center

Students and parents are encouraged to seek out the counselor regarding personal, social, or emotional concerns. Our counselor works directly with students in individual and group sessions and also offers campus-wide programs in the form of speakers, seminars, and workshops on adolescent-health topics.

Location, Hours, and Contact Information

The counseling office is located in the Health and Wellness Center. It is open during the day and after school for students, parents, and Madeira adults who would like to meet with a counselor. In case of after-hours urgent concerns, faculty and staff are able to reach the counselor 24/7. Weekend and evening times are available by appointment or for emergencies.

How To Schedule a Counseling Appointment:
Students can schedule in-person meetings (the counseling offices are upstairs in the Wellness House) or online meetings via . Or by visiting qdit.com.cn/counselingappointments

Check the counselors’ availability online and then make an appointment that works with your schedule!  

  • Choose from 15-minute, 30-minute, or 1-hour sessions.  Select the counselor and then the specific date and time.
  • Add your name and email address.
  • In the box on the right, write whether you want the meeting to be in-person or via Teams.
  • You’ll receive an email confirmation and then a reminder of your meeting time.

If your meeting is via Teams, a “Join Teams meeting” link will be in the confirmation and reminder emails.  At your appointment time, click on the link.

Health and Wellness Committee

国产亚洲日韩欧美看国产|日韩欧美中文字幕无码The director of counseling oversees the Health and Wellness Committee, consisting of school nurses, the director of athletics, the assistant director of athletics, the athletic trainer, and two additional faculty members. The goals of the Health and Wellness Committee are as follows:

  • To develop and facilitate the Health and Wellness curriculum, which currently consists of a series of workshops on a variety of topics for each grade level as well as campus-wide activities designed to increase awareness and promote stress relief and self-care.
  • To discuss and help address specific issues related to the health and wellness of individual students and the Madeira community.
  • To connect the counseling, health, athletic, and residential life departments and broaden the scope of health and wellness at Madeira.

Health and Wellness Workshops and Activities

Each grade level participates in a series of Health and Wellness workshops designed to educate and increase awareness of specific physical, cognitive, emotional, and social health issues such as stress management/relaxation, healthy relationships, drug/alcohol/tobacco use, nutrition and healthy eating choices, Internet safety and cyber bullying, decision-making, and sex education.
